Friends like Family

There is something very bonding about shared difficult circumstances, and good friends can really become more like family. That describes much of the atmosphere at Trinity School of Medicine. The last two terms have brought more spouses and families, so it has been really fun to meet new people and create wonderful friendships. Since Luke and I don't have children of our own yet, we've basically become honorary "Uncle" and "Aunt" to all of our friends' children. On Valentine's Day we were able to celebrate our friend's daughter's first birthday! They did a wonderful job decorating and planning her party, and it was such a fun time spent with friends.
Colbie, the birthday girl!

We are so blessed to know so many wonderful people here, and I love getting to spend time with them. Almost every Wednesday, the wives get together at the pool. It gets lonely here, so it is really nice to be able to interact with other wives and play with their adorable children.

A few Saturdays ago, Luke kind of took the day off, so we met up with some of our friends at the pool. Luke and I even got to paddle board out to one of the nearby beaches. After our time at the pool, we went to dinner at Driftwood Restaurant. The view from Driftwood is fantastic! It overlooks the water as the sun sets, and even though it took over an hour for our food to arrive, we had a fantastic time.

Last Saturday, most students had a free post-midterm weekend. Since Luke is now in his fifth term, he doesn't have the normal schedule and doesn't take midterms. We only have a couple months left here, so we took advantage of a fun weekend to spend with friends and went to Bequia for the day. In the morning, we tried a new beach on Friendship Bay, the windward side of Bequia. It was overcast and windy, so we weren't too happy with it at first. When the sun came out from behind the clouds and we felt warm enough to go into the water, we really enjoyed it. Since it was on the windward side, the waves were big enough to do some body surfing. I haven't been able to body surf for awhile, so that was really fun.

It was cool and windy, so we sat on a tree branch for awhile, until the sun came out.

For lunch, we went to our favorite pizza place on Bequia, Mac's Pizza! It's right on the Belmont Walkway, on the water, and it is fantastic. The Belmont Walkway is a trail along the water's edge.

Chicken, bacon, pineapple pizza. YUM!

After lunch, we walked the Belmont Walkway to Princess Margaret Beach. There were a lot of other students there that we knew, so we spent some time on the beach hanging out with them. We also jumped off of the dock, made sand castles with the kids, and walked the beach. Luke and I took a new trail we found, hoping it would take us to Lower Bay Beach. It took us to the road that leads to the beach, so we were able to see the beach from a distance. We also made friends with an adorable kitty that followed us the whole time we walked on the trail. At the end of the day, we got ice cream before catching the ferry back to St. Vincent.

He's always making me laugh.

I love him.

Prettiest waffle cone ever!

Huge yacht we saw as we left Bequia. (There are people to the right of the photo for size reference).

Medical School is very busy, but I'm so grateful for the friends that we've made and the adventures that we have been able to squeeze in when we can. It's hard to believe that this time in our lives is quickly coming to an end.
